I often have dreams about teaching--which is something that I used to do full time, but only do part time lately. In one recent dream, I was actually a teacher in a room in which many of my high school peers were the students. I am not even sure what the topic I was teaching was. I was standing at the front of the room and the chalk I was using would not make a mark on the board--or perhaps only a very light mark. It was very difficult to get it to write, in any case. So that put a big dent in things. I think I was teaching on some sort of humanities topic, which is in my general field of expertise. In general, no one was paying attention--not even those who I usually consider to be my closest friends and allies. I was not connecting with them at all, either. It was what you would call a complete disaster, from a teaching perspective. In my opinion, this dream expresses a lot of my anxieties about teaching......about whether or not I am good enough at what I do, and whether or not what I do in the classroom is relevant, etc. |

Yes, I have dreamt about dead friends meeting with me and talking with me. The last one of these dreams was quite a while ago, though. I don't recall much detail. I was having these dreams about my friend Michael for as long as 3-4 years after he died. I guess the last one was about a year ago, just after I got married. And he was giving me "life advice" during the dream. As I recall, the dream took place in the city I used to live in when he was alive, and I was telling him about my upcoming wedding (in the dream it hadn't happened yet?), and we was responding to this information in a very realistic way. There was a montage of settings in our old town.... I don't know what it means. |
